ABOUT ANIL POWLE
– Written by Uma Ramakrishnan – 21-03-2013

Anil Powle comes from a family of Jewellery makers & was naturally artistically inclined. He opted out of the family business and completed Applied Art & also Fine Art from The J.J. School of Art. Though Anil was more inclined towards fine art, his personal life took a drastic turn and he took to Applied Art which would earn him his living. His creativity made him explore the field of cinema too where he designed sets for films. But the field didn’t interest him for long and he was back into advertising full time and a few years down the line he started his own Advertising studio.

His interest in Fine Art however never died & this innermost desire would flare up now & then. Every year during Diwali, he sent out company greeting cards to clients. One such year, Anil decided to do a little painting which he could then reproduce as a greeting card. These small paintings are in poster colours and were reproduced as greeting cards. Every year there was a new painting, a new thought with a little explanatory verse about the painting. Clients gradually started waiting for his greeting cards, some say that they have been collecting it over the years.

As a person, Anil loves to talk to people & tell stories and his paintings almost always tell a story, that usually has a moral. In real life too, Anil addresses problems of people by telling them a story on the spot and they seem to drive the message straight home. People with problems seem to understand what he is driving at immediately and know the direction they should be taking. Anil loves people and just like others collect stamps or other things, he collects people, people from all walks of life & these very people become the inspiration for his paintings.
